Grand Tetons, Yellowstone & a Giveaway!

It’s been a dream of mine to get to the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone since I was a little girl. They are only 6 hours from me, but the gas money and/or time off hasn’t been there. Part of my dream has been to go in the early fall and I’ve decided that this year, no matter what, I’m going. I’ve scheduled the trip to be the last week of this month. Could use some help with the trip though, so I’m offering this special deal *and* having a sweet giveaway at the same time.

**You can pre-purchase an original Polaroid from the trip! I’ll be in Grand Tetons National Park, Yellowstone & hopefully the Beartooth Highway if there are no closures. $65 will get you an original Polaroid taken in/around these locations & matted in either a black or white 8×10 mat. I am only going to make 10 available for purchase now & that could be it! My Polaroid stock is running dangerously low so I will not have them available that much longer, ever again. You can pre-order here.

**Get a 5% discount the rest of this month! All purchases greatly help w/ gas, lodging, food & some of Sutt’s special needs now. Use code: TETONS when checking out.

**Now for the giveaway and how to enter! I am doing TWO giveaways. The first one will be for a matted original Polaroid from the trip. The second will be for TWO 5×5 prints of your choice from my store (I love diptychs). To enter this giveaway, you must share either any of my posts on Instagram or Twitter linking this blog post. Be sure to include my handle, which is the same on both IG & Twitter – @solexposure. Afterwards, leave a comment here and I’ll be picking the winners randomly from that. The giveaway starts now and I will pull the two winners on Monday, Oct. 1st at 12 PM MST.

This will be a belated birthday trip for Suttree (his 10th birthday is 9/17) and me. After all we’ve been through this year, all I want to do is have some time together exploring. Thank you as always for your interest in my work and our adventures!

**And the winners are…””MM” for the original Polaroid and “Kirissie” for the two prints! Thank you to all for entering!**

Suttree’s Big Surgery & Update

**UPDATE – 8/20**

Suttree’s surgery was a success! The first (more on this in a bit) took 5 hours for both ears. He woke up & was standing afterwards and did not need a blood transfusion (which was a concern due to his slight hemophilia). He had no facial paralysis (common, but usually temporary after this surgery) and no balance issues (also common mainly due to inflammation). They kept him under constant supervision for two days and he received two laser therapy sessions and one extra long acupuncture session all to help with the swelling. A week later, he needed to have the stitching on side completely redone, so he had to undergo a second surgery that was almost two hours long. Since then, he has had all of his stitches out and is healed up beautifully (pictures below). He is now completely deaf. They don’t normally remove the ear drum, but the surgeon wanted no chance of the infection surviving anywhere, so she removed *everything*. The deafness has been and continues to be a major learning curve for both of us.

Sutt’s postop & allergy care and treatments continue. He receives acupuncture once a week (soon to hopefully go to twice a month) and this week will have a blood panel done to see his levels post surgery. He is no longer on any antibiotics (for the first time in a year). He also now only gets 5 mg of prednisone when there is excessive swelling due to itching/rubbing from his allergies. He has only needed one dose in the last week, which is the least he has had in the last 7 years. The vets and I find this incredible. He also has recently started getting 3 drops of Full Spectrum CBD oil in his dinner. I believe that this, plus just recently getting the green light from the vet to swim in the river, has helped his skin immensely. Sutt continues to have major incontinence issues and the vets are completely stumped on this. It really might be his age, it might be behavioral after being so sick for so long, it might be both. Although he is much better than he was, he still goes through rough days of itchiness, swelling around his eyes & overall soreness (due to allergies, not infection). That’s not everyday though, not like it was for a year.

In conclusion, I am so, so happy that the surgery was done and I was able to have it done for him. Last week, the vet had tears in her eyes when she looked at me and said, “I’m so happy you gave him the surgery. A lot of people wouldn’t have and it’s been amazing to see him heal and get so much better so quickly.” As I would do *anything* for Suttree, I never thought about not getting him the surgery, but it has been beautiful watching all the vets care for him and learn more about this procedure, his allergies and his AMAZING healing powers. Multiple vets have said he heals faster than any dog they have ever seen.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing our ongoing journey and even more so for helping us with our travels.

Two days after surgery:

Left, 1 week after surgery. Right, two weeks after surgery:

Healed left and right er…”ears”, 4 weeks after surgery:

Initial Post:

It’s finally time for Suttree, my 9 1/2 year old dalmatian pointer cross, to undergo a pretty big surgery called TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) in both ears. The infection started last year and quickly spread to both ears. It’s been a downward spiral since, resulting in weekly vet visits & an overall major scare to his system. After consulting with multiple specialists, vets & surgeons, the surgery cannot be put off any longer. The surgery is scheduled for June 26th.

A bit of good news is that we have already done a culture from his ears and have started giving him the antibiotic and anti fungal medication. Also, a scary fact is that he is moderately anemic now (due to longterm infection) but had to undergo surgery yesterday for an ear hematoma and went through the hour long surgery under anesthesia excellently *and* his blood clotted normally. This is a great sign for the upcoming TECA surgery, which is quite intrusive and long.

The surgery & overnight stay is $1800 (there could be extra charges, as always). The clinic is allowing me to put half down if I have to and can make payments on the rest. With having a culture, blood test, surgery and new meds in the last 10 days, I am pretty tapped out. I have created a coupon for my store to get 10% off with all purchases from now through the 26th. Code: SUTTREE

If you don’t feel like making a purchase right now, here is a direct link to my Paypal – PayPal.Me/SolExposure

Also, you can donate directly to Suttree’s account at the vet. Pruyn Veterinary Hospital – (406)829-8150. Just say you would like to put money on Suttree’s account for Sol for his upcoming surgery on the 26th. If you do this, ask for a confirmation and please let me know!

These last 6 months have been very trying for both Sutt & I and w/o the sales I’ve made and help we’ve received, we wouldn’t have gotten this far. Words cannot express how thankful I am to all of you all over the world who have helped us. I (& the vets) truly believe this surgery will be a major turning point for Suttree in getting him back to the happy, energetic dog he has always been.

Glass Negatives from Montana

On a recent trip to a local antique store, I found a box of Cramer’s Photo Dry Plates. The owner of the booth said he had found them decades ago and let me take them home to scan them. Scanning didn’t work so I made a set up and photographed them digitally & cleaned them up in Photoshop (dust removal, etc.). I plan on making 5×7 lustre prints of some of my favorites. If you are interested in any of these, leave a comment or contact me through my Info page which ones you’re interested in. They will be $25 a piece w/ free US shipping ($5 internationally).

Ltd Ed Montana Prints

Hi, all! It’s about time I’ve done a short run of some of my favorite Montana instant images. I’m also doing this as a small fundraiser for my vet bill accumulating dog, Suttree. Right now, he is showing great improvement on the new diet, Science Diet’s Derm Defense, and walking much better w/ the help of Tramadol for his arthritis. I just re-upped his meds and got a new bag of food, but also made a payment on his bill and we are sitting at $330 as a leftover balance. Sutt & I *really* appreciate any help we can get and we’ll send you a Polaroid of Suttree along w/ your order as a special thanks!

These are *first* edition prints and only (3) have been made of each. The square images are 8×8 and the rectangle images are 8×10 (w/ white borders). Each one will be titled, numbered and signed on the back. They are professionally printed from my beloved shop in Arizona as darkroom prints (not inkjet) with a mat finish. They are $60 each (discounted from my normal price of $75) w/ $5 for shipping within the US/$10 outside of the US. You can find them all in under the Prints section of my store.

*There are a few of you out there that I owe one of these Montana prints to for picking up one of my limited edition Arizona prints. I had a list, but that list was on my beloved iMac that died (RIP). Please contact me & let me know which MT print you’d like & I’ll get it out to you!

When I moved to Arizona in ’06, I went to document Arizona’s mining towns and reservation villages. It took me 6 years. After I took photos of the last town on my list, I knew I had to start thinking of my next project. I loved my Arizona project so much, I decided to do the same thing, but in a new state. I’ve always wanted to go to Montana and as soon as I thought of it, everything about the thought, no, dream, felt right. Things came up and paths turned, as they do, and I have been in Kansas the last two years, dreaming the dream of Montana. Dreaming of my next photography project. I got a promotion at work a little over two months ago and ever since, I have been putting in 60-70 hour weeks to make this dream a reality before the weather makes me wait until spring. Fortunately, I get to take my job with me. My dog, Suttree, Fela the rabbit, Amos the Xterra and I will be making our way northwest next month.

What have I done with my Arizona project? I’m still sitting on that. Thoughts of a book and a big show are in my head. Ultimately, they will be given to the state of Arizona. I figure, though, that it took me so long and so much work to actually do it, that I am in no rush to put out something quickly. I would like it to have some input from other sources/people and it will come when it’s supposed to. To help with the move to Montana, though, I have decided to pick out a few of my personal favorite Arizona images and make limited edition prints. These are *first* edition prints and only (3) have been made of each. The square images are 8×8 and the rectangle images are 8×10. Each one will be titled, numbered and signed on the back. They are professionally printed from my beloved shop in Arizona with a mat finish. They are $60 each (discounted from my normal price of $75) w/ $5 for shipping within the US/$10 outside of the US.

I also have much artwork that needs to go to new homes, since I do not plan on moving with it. My “Art? Blocks” are $15-$25 and the link to those is here:

“Art? Blocks”

My drawings and paintings that are available are here:

Drawings & Paintings

I also have many beautiful 5×5 prints of Kansas and Missouri available at only $15 each. Please message me and let me know if you would like to see what’s available. I am thrilled at the quality of these.

Now, here’s the kicker: If you purchase (or donate) *ANYTHING* from (or to) me at all, at any price, you will receive a FREE 8×8 or 8×10 Montana print (of your choice) from me in 2015. This is a thank you, for helping this photographer make her dreams a reality, reach her goals and investing in her future.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart and the top of my head, for taking the time to look at my work and read my words. I would be doing photography no matter what, but you all are what makes it that much more enjoyable.

Here are my 11 choices for the Arizona prints (click each one to view larger). Just message me through my Info page as to which one(s) you would like. No plans for a second edition anytime soon. First come, first serve.

*Extra specialness – I have 5 Kansas barn wood frames (made by me) available. They are incredibly rustic and beautiful. 4 are 16×16 (interior) and 1 is 16×20 (interior). I will not be making these again. A picture of 3 of them is down below. If you are interested in having one of the Arizona prints in one, that is possible. They are $325 each (including the print). Carefully packaged by a shipping company and shipping is $25 and US only.

Win a Framed Print or a Dry Age Kit!

Using the random number generator at and numbering the respondents chronologically by post date (1–17), the first number pulled was 1! That means the winner of the framed print is Adrienne! The second number pulled was 17, so Thibsie wins the Dry Age Kit!

Congratulations, Adrienne and Thibsie!

Hello, there.
I haven’t run a contest in some time. So, here we are! I am moving very soon and I desperately need to clean house! I have picked 6 Polaroid/Impossible images to make 5 prints of each. They will be 5″x5″ and I don’t have any plans of making any more at this size. So, they will be limited editions of 5, for each print. They will be numbered and signed on the back by me. Each print is $30 plus $5 for US shipping (if outside of the US, $10 for shipping). Here they are:

**For the first 12 orders, I will MAT & FRAME the print FOR FREE.** The frame measures 10.5″x10.5″x1.5″ and is white. It’s a simple, lovely window frame and I will use high quality white mat board. After the 12th order, it will just be the print that goes out. If you would like it matted or framed after the 12th order, I can do so, but for an additional fee.

Now, for the giveaway! I will give away ONE MATTED & FRAMED PRINT! That’s not it! The Impossible Project has given me a Dry Age Kit to give away as well! The Dry Age Kit will keep your beautiful images from being damaged by the moisture and heat.

All you have to do is repost this blog entry on some social network site. Tweet it (convenient button below), Tumblr it, blog it, Facebook it, whatever you would like. Leave a comment below with a link to where you posted. Your comment here, with the link, will be your entry to win.

First, I will pick the winner of the framed print using a random number generator and the second pick will win the Dry Age Kit. The winners will be picked on Tuesday, July 10th, at 3 PM PST and I will announce them here and on my Twitter. I will then contact the winners via email (please make sure you include that when filling out the comment form).

I will keep this updated, so you can see how many prints/frames are left:

Photo 1: 5 Prints left 3 left
Photo 2: 5 Prints left
Photo 3: 5 Prints left
Photo 4: 5 Prints left 1 left
Photo 5: 5 Prints left
Photo 6: 5 Prints left 2 left

Prints w/ mat & frame: 12 left 3 left

To purchase a print (or prints), email me via the contact form on my Info page. Please let me know which print(s) you would like. Frames *are not* limited to one per person. Paypal is the preferred method of payment.

As always, if there are any photos of mine that you would like a print of, please let me know and I’m sure we can make it happen (and quite possibly with a unique frame). Right now, I am working very hard to move my art and frames, so that way, I will not have to move with them and risk any damage. Also, moving is expensive, and anything I make is going towards that.

Thank you and good luck!!

Ever wish you could mix and match the lovely large format Polaroid films? Well, now you can. I have four different types of 4×5 Polaroid films for sale that you can buy by the shot. They are all from packs that I regularly shoot with and have great success. Since they come from a mix of boxes I have open and am using, I am not totally sure of the expiration dates, although, I can tell you they are the latest batch of each. I have tenderly felt each little packet that holds the chemicals and all of them are soft. I’m asking $6 for each.

Type 54 – 100 ISO – 5 Shots
Type 59 – 80 ISO – 6 Shots

That’s not it! I am selling three two packs of my precious Type 779 *AND* three ONE pack of Type 600. (Update: I am now sold out of Type 600.) These are from the very last batch made (’08), that I bought in bricks. They have been kept in my refrigerator since purchase. They are $25 each, plus $5 for shipping within the US. Again, if you live outside of the US, please email me where and I’ll let you know how much for shipping.

Either leave a comment here or feel free to email me via the contact form on my Info page. First come, first serve!
